@Megan @Hannah @Walter @Jay I have just uninstalled the Dropbox app. The path to files on my desktop is showing correctly now.

@Megan please don't make similar suggestions. I almost killed my PC while trying to move the PC folder from Dropbox to another drive. See the screenshot. As you can see, almost all items disappeared from my desktop. Fortunately, I was able to reverse the situation. Also, my desktop is a mess now. Hopefully, it's the only…

@"Megan" Do you mean to move the files/folders to the recycle bean? Is it what you are asking?
-
@"Hannah" On one hand, the Dropbox backup shows that it is empty (no file there). But on the other hand, when browsing with windows explorer. it shows that the PC folder exists. (See screenshot)

@Walter Is there an easier way?

Thanks for your response @Jay Is it possible to delete the PC folder from Dropbox? Thank you, Michael

@Hannah @Walter @Megan @Jay Hey all, I'd like to inform you that I restored the default location of my Desktop and Documents folders using BAT files (as shown at https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/23504-restore-default-location-personal-folders-windows-10-a.html). Now, when I right clicked on the icons on my desktop, then…

Hi all @Hannah @Walter @Megan @Jay Should I uninstall the Dropbox app prior to deleting the 'C:\Users\Michael\Dropbox\PC' folder from Dropbox? Michael
-
Hi all @Hannah @Walter @Megan @Jay I compared the two folders: C:\Users\Michael\Desktop' and 'C:\Users\Michael\Dropbox\PC\Desktop'. Also C:\Users\Michael\Documents' and 'C:\Users\Michael\Dropbox\PC\Documents. Their content is identical (see screenshots). Is it possible and what will happen if I just delete…

Hi @Hannah Re: "Does that help?" Not really. The 'C:\Users\Michael' folder is located in the right place. Anyhow, I went to that folder, right clicked on the Desktop folder, then clicked on propertied, and clicked on Location tab (see the screenshot). After that, I went to 'C:\Users\Michael\Dropbox\PC' folder, which…

Sorry, Megan, I am not clear. What are the reparse points (or the shortcuts) that need be deleted? Also, what are the folders with the arrows on them? If I go to 'C:\Users\Michael\Dropbox\PC' there are two folders: Desktop and Documents. Both of them bring the error. If I go to 'C:\Users\Michael' there are lots of stuff…

Dear Megan, Here are some more screenshots:

Dear Megan, I am unable to move the files/folders either per your directions, not per Walter's instructions. I also checked again if the backup disabled (see a screenshot). In Windows Explorer I got an error message: "Can't redirect into reparse point, please choose different target path." I don't know what's wrong or what…

Dear Megan, I just restarted my PC, and what a surprise, all the green (and grey) circles disappeared from my desktop's icons. I'm not sure if It's related, but the Dropbox icon didn't show in the taskbar hidden icons. Does it mean something? Is there an explanation for this? Thank you. Michael

Hi Megan, Re: "did you try to move your Desktop, back to its initial path on your device?" My PC OS is Windows 10 Pro x64 version 22H2 (OS build 19045.2965). Would you please explain how to move my desktop to its initial path? FYI, I had never moved my desktop. As for the check mark in the green circle, I got your point.…

Dear Megan, I have successfully disabled the backup, as you instructed. The path to files is still goes through 'Dropbox\PC as follows: ' C:\Users\***\Dropbox\PC\Desktop Is there something else I must do?

After I installed the Dropbox desktop app, a small check mark inside a green circle appended to almost all icons on my desktop. Is it possible to get rid of it?
-
Dear Megan, Please let me know, what will happen after I disable the backup? Will it affect the path to files on my desktop? Thank you, Michael

Hi Walter, Yes, I see backed up folder. Unfortunately, I do not know how to attach a snapshot here. It is shown under: Personal Dropbox space. After a black square it says: Regular files (1.2 GB), and then after a blue square it says: Backup (7.8 MB), but it is not accessible. Re: "Have you maybe tried moving your…

I uninstalled Dropbox long time ago, and I cannot recall if the computer backup from Dropbox was ever enabled and/or disabled. Sorry. But, you're probably right.
