Thanks for trying. Since sharing a folder in Dropbox on my local network is not a supported feature, I've decided to cancel my trial and use a hybrid sharing scenario using my local network and Google Drive or, perhaps, OneDrive for off-site backup.

Hi @Megan, I'm not using Dropbox with the network shared folder in Dropbox at present. I signed up for a 2T trial until the middle of May and I want to be sure that Dropbox will work the way I need it to before pulling the trigger on the year's subscription. I don't have time to experiment to see if the network shared…

Hi @Rich If you share your Dropbox folder or a subfolder across the network and then save a file from another device, this doesn't trigger the file-update event that Dropbox relies on to sync the file. Dropbox won't know that the saved file has changed until the next time it indexes your files. When a file is updated and…

Hi Megan, I understand what you are saying, but I'm not sure I agree. Perhaps, I don't understand the file-update event. Normally, I am the only one using the files on the network shared "Shared" folder is me. However, my wife and I keep our shared income tax information on under that folder. We have a few other folders…

Done! Thanks for pointing that out.

My case is solved. However, I would like it noted that I think the Photos tab in the mobile Dropbox should not have all thumbnails, but only thumbnails from specific folders, including the Camera Uploads folder, the Photos folder, etc. It should not have thumbnails for every photo that exists in Dropbox. I store all sorts…

See my reply to @"Rich" above. Nobody has access to my computers except me and no one has my Dropbox account except me, but others might find your suggestion helpful. Thanks.

I submitted a help request to Dropbox and included the following information, which kind of counteracts what you've been saying. The photos do not appear in my online Dropbox account; in my Camera Uploads folder on my computer(s) (so I cannot scan them for viruses, etc.); or in my iPhone Photos. They only show up in my…

I love the way Jay writes, "...might be... ." I guess that means that Dropbox support staff don't actually know what Dropbox is doing to our computers. He also refers to "folders" which is not what the question is about. It is about Windows File Explorer context menu items related to Dropbox.

Hi Hannah, Please note that my Dropbox on my new computer was not downloading files, it was uploading files. What you outline is essentially what I did. I copied the files from my old computer to my new computer to a folder named, oh I don't remember, but let's say DB (it wasn't named Dropbox). I don't think it matters how…

I guess I'm still looking for an answer to my original question which was, in a nutshell, how to move the Dropbox files and folders to the Dropbox folder on a new computer quickly, via external hard drive or a network share, without them being uploaded all over again? If this cannot be done, then maybe someone could…

I had a fairly straight forward reason for copying the folders and files to my new computer. I actually needed to use them and I didn't want to wait 7 to 10 days (or who knows how long) for the files to download to my computer from cloud. Now that I know how Dropbox works (or doesn't work) I will never do that again. My…

Hi Walter, It was never stuck at the same number of files to be uploaded or synced. I had no doubt that eventually everything would get uploaded. I was just wondering why the files had to be uploaded at all since they were already in the Dropbox cloud, already on another device, and were replicated exactly in the new…

Hi Jay, Yes, about three days into the upload I went through the settings and realized that the Bandwidth for uploads was limited, so I changed that to unlimited. The Dropbox app (hovering over taskbar icon) indicates (and indicated) "Uploading". When I click on the taskbar icon at the bottom of the window it simply says…

With that many photos, I'd opt for a different app. I use the WiFi Photes app on the iPhone (not sure if it is available on Android). There are probably other similar apps. You can then download photos and videos from your iPhone's Photos via .zip files. I can't remember what the limitations are. It seems to me it's 100 or…

You are safe to delete them from your iPhone photos app once they have been backed up to Dropbox Photos. However, do not delete them from your Dropbox Photos unless you have moved them to a non-Dropbox folder on your computer (I've only tested on a Windows 10 PC). If you move them to a Dropbox folder different from the…
