This only works until you restart your computer. Dropbox updates automatically as soon as it has the chance of doing so. Updates cannot be turned off.

It is happening at my workplace, on dozens of computers. Dropbox is absolutely critical to our workflow, so not having this feature in well over a month now, has had a huge impact in our operations, forcing us to bring old Macs out of storage, as they are not affected by this issue.
