@"Jay" - A little late. I've canceled and moved on. It's pretty clear that Dropbox isn't where I want to be.

@"arigoldfilms" It's a little more complicated than that for sync.com, but yes, those are the icons they have and it is really clear where your folders are. Right now you can only sync at the folder level, but they are beta testing file level syncing. They suggested I try it, but right now I've been focused on getting…

I found a solution. Leave Dropbox. I now have my Dropbox files way under 2G and will not be renewing my paid subscription when it comes due next month. All my other files are now happily residing in someone else's cloud where they always sync correctly and I know exactly what is available off-line and what is not. And my…

@"William F.5" I've been moving my files to sync and will be canceling my Dropbox subscription before it renews in October. I've always had problems with selective sync in Dropbox and these last icon changes were the last straw. Sync isn't as fast when you have lots of files (it's great when you don't have too many), but…

As posted earlier in one of these forums, I'm in the process of moving my content off dropbox before my dropbox subscription renews next month. (A very slow process, but I'm switching to sync and it seems to work ok, altho it has its own quirks. But it runs better in a lot of ways.) In the process, I've discovered that…

Yeah, I got the same message and took it to mean the old system wasn't coming back. And, since selective sync has always been a little buggy, it seemed like it was time to look elsewhere. With my Dropbox subscription up for renewal soon, I needed to make a decision now. So, after testing several options, I've purchased a…

They just use form letters for their first few responses -- I got the exact same response (word for word) when I contacted them. And support seems to have no idea what is going on in the forum, it's pretty clear that they aren't being paid to be aware of user complaints and issues raised in that channel. But ****** initial…

I've upvoted it long ago.

I'm on PCs - both Windows 10, a desktop and a pretty new Surface. So, NO, it is not Apple's fault. And, as you noted, the info on icons both posted and sent to me by "support" have made it very clear that the icons have changed.
-
Dropbox staff made it pretty clear to me that they don't have plans to change it back -- at least that's how I took it when I asked if they were considering going back and how soon that decision might be made because my plan renewal was coming up, and they responded by giving me the link with directions for closing my…

They've now made sure I know how to end my subscription to Dropbox. That sounds like they have no intention of giving us us the old icon system back. Very disappointed. This seems like such an easy thing - just go back to what was working before!
-
Just got a great (insert eyeroll) from support: If it is of any help at all, even for the time being, if you know that a folder contains both online-only and local files, you could rename the folder to something like: [Actual name of the folder] (mixed). Apparently nobody in support actually uses Dropbox in the real world.
-
Even if Googledrive or onedrive or the others don't have as good of an icon system as Dropbox USED to have, their customer service can't be any worse!
-
This shouldn't even be an issue -- it NEVER SHOULD HAVE CHANGED. Marking a folder online only when just one file is online only makes Dropbox too cumbersome to be very useful anymore. I don't have time to go scrolling around to see what I have available on my computer and what isn't. I've already started looking for a…
-
And THAT's the problem. The meaning of icons has changed in a way that does NOT tell us anything useful. A cloud for a folder that has a mix of online only and available files is NOT USEFUL. And I thought the mixed status symbol (a folder with available and online only files) was a green line in the white circle with a…

Thanks for the info. I've always been confused by the Admin issue -- I didn't realize that Windows was the ultimate admin, but of course I should have!
-
And for those of us who are the ONLY account on our computer? Why can't I get to these? Deleting old log files really shouldn't be an issue.
-
I have the same access issue - I could delete everything before mid-2020, but everything after is demanding admin authorization, even though I am the admin. Very irritating.

Dropbox: Go back to the icons working like they did before!!!! I REALLY need to be able to quickly seen when some files in a folder are synced and some are not. I do NOT need to know whether I opened them last with an app or on my computer. I pay for Dropbox to make my life easier, not for more complexity.
-
I have this exact same issue. Any folder that has even just one file saved online only is now showing up with the offline cloud icon. This is REALLY problematic, since I use multiple layers in my filing system. As others have noted, the green/white dots with the check also seem to have become a complete mess. I think in my…

Dang, I thought that might take care of it, but no. The red dot is still there.

@"Daphne" And, as usual, support has been useless thus far.
-
@"Daphne" support id 11077996 Dropbox v101.4.434 It's probably an old version, but at one point several years ago Dropbox made a bunch of changes (to turn it into an app) that made it completely non-functional for what I needed on my system. It was weeks of trying to figure out a solution, with the end result being going…

@"Daphne" I control click because that is the only way to get anything to open. Left clicking does NOTHING. That's an old, old problem that I quit caring about because I could get to everything I need with a control left click
-
@"Daphne" First slide is the red dot/box I'm seeing. Second slide shows the open menu. The Open Dropbox in system tray" open nothing. View Sync issues tells me there are no issues. I'm not getting any error notices. As far as I can tell, everything is working fine. Dropbox is showing that files are synced and I haven't…

I have the same problem. Big red box on the icon on my windows desktop. No number, just a red box. "Open dropbox in system tray doesn't work (don't know that it ever has) and I don't see anyway to figure out this is and if it's something I care about. Files seem to be syncing, but it's not like I've gone through every…
