  • Thanks Walter. I tried that already - but contrary to that article, folder sizes are empty. But playing around some more, i found this cumbersome method, the … calculate size tool, going folder by folder - would be great if i could make it happen automatically for all folders.
  • I am about to reinstall Dropbox on my iMac and noticed that there is an opt-out of File Provider option. Isn't that a no-brainer? What are the advantages of Dropbox using the File Provider versus good old classic Dropbox?
  • Hi Walter, Thanks — this is very helpful. On your first point, I can confirm that I am selecting the parent folder: /Users/xyz/Library/CloudStorage and not the Dropbox folder itself. Just to clarify one point, in my case there hasn’t actually been an option to “relink” to the existing folder. The only options presented by…
  • Thanks for the response, Jay. I appreciate the explanation, but I have to admit the situation still feels somewhat unsatisfying and I’m trying to understand what actually happened. The main thing that concerns me is that both my Mac and my Windows PC appear to have lost their Dropbox authentication at roughly the same…
  • Indeed. But then one does need to use another backup solution. I use Time Machine for backup and Dropbox for syncing. In the past, I have been told that this is a dangerous combination. Presumably that is no longer the case? Thanks.
  • Thanks Megan. Just to clarify, you are saying that it is ok to use TM and Dropbox together, but should one restore a Dropbox folder file from TM, that is when potential problems may occur? Can one not jusy disconnect the device from Dropbox before restoring from TM, and then reconnecting, to work around this potential…
  • I don't like being solely reliant on the cloud, whether dropbox or icloud drive. So TM is a must (i backup to multiple physical drives - 3 at last count!) So looks like I will have no choice but to ditch DropBox, unless Dropbox confirms that OSX Monterey Time Machine and Dropbox are "compatible".
  • So as you say, dropbox is not a substitute for backing up. And you also say, do not use Time Machine with Dropbox. So, then, is one stuck without a backup solution if one uses Mac OS?
  • I am a newbie to Vault - just installed it. After reading the exchange on this thread, I'm a bit confused - what is the reason one would use dropbox vault, especially if one's connected devices (desktops) are adequately physically protected? In the hypothetical case of a dropbox user with just one connected device - say a…
  • Thanks! So the pictures that i see on the local phone on the dropbox app in the Cameras Upload folder are saved locally in optimized fashion when this option is enabled? and otherwise, presumably they are downloaded from the dropbox server on demand, like any other dropbox file?
  • Thanks for the quick response Walter, and apologies for the unclear query! Here is the question rephrased: First, I do not use iCloud Photos. I am just curious what it means when I set the toggle switch under “APPS USING ICLOUD” for the ios Dropbox app to ON, i.e. green? In what way does the Dropbox app “use” icloud?…
