True, but for me this has become a wider issue than loosing key functionality. I just don’t trust Dropbox anymore, after their non-answer to the question as to how they can just “turn off” supposedly private encryption. Anyway, my decision is taken and my Dropbox has been migrated to PCloud already. By the way: apparently…

Hi Nancy, This is getting stranger all the time. Yes I know that all content in Dropbox is AES encrypted at rest, and so also the content of Vault. But the point here is that Vault was “sold” as offering private encryption, that is to say encryption with a private key that only the user has access to and not Dropbox or…

Yes it does. One drawback of PCloud is that it doesn’t come with an integrated online editor for documents (except txt files) but the synch function with your local folders works great, so editing locally and synching immediatly as you work is the way to go.

As Dropbox doesn't seem to want to bother with addressing the confidentiality issues related to their decision to terminate Vault, I have decided to part with the platform, after about 20 years. For those who are also looking for alternatives: after some comparing I've personally settled on Pcloud as my new cloud storage…

Hello Megan, I'm sorry but this explanation doesn't clarify much. Vault is fully encrypted storage. Nothing indicates the Dropbox will soon (preferably before the termination of Vault) provide an equivalent alternative. You state "new capabilities", but what are those capabilities exactly and when will they be available?…

I see that in the mean time Megan from Dropbox has decided that this issue is “solved”… No explanations are offered and it is still a mystery to me how Dropbox can just move your Vault files out of your Vault and into a normal Dropbox folder without your credentials and Vault PIN, and without decrypting the files in the…

I actually use Dropbox passwords :) But I'm in the process of reconsidering my further subscription to Dropbox in general, because who knows what useful feature they will terminate next. Customer trust is a horse that comes a step at a time, but that leaves galloping.

There has been no explanation so far to my knowledge. My guess is that this is another move that brings Dropbox closer to what they have been focussing on for the last 5 years or so, which is B2B. It is likely that the Vault functionality is not very popular with with B2B customers, and that it is more a consumer function,…

Plus subscriber here. This whole OCR business is not clear at all. I seem to remember from the early days (I've been a Dropbox customer for many years) that there was a time every PDF you uploaded (scanned or not) was automatically made searchable as a standard feature, but maybe my memory is failing me. In any case, I…

You are right, my mistake. I downsized my plan some time ago, must have lost the function then.
-
Never mind, I have found my answer already : Dropbox have removed the watermark functionality from the Plus plan and moved it to the new "Essentials" plan. Great 😞
-
Thanks Marc, but I get this : Has this functionality been moved to a professional plan or so ?

Hi marcio_at_zam, I was in the same case. Dropbox can fix this for you but you need to enter a support request and insist. The thing is that there is a small risk involved (mainly of not being able to find existing Paper docs) and for this reason they still haven't rolled out the solution to all users. You just need to…
