But the rest still makes sense, doesn't it? Yes, it does. I'm just trying to stress the point that it is not Selective Sync that you're all asking for. That feature already exists and does not do (nor is it intended to do) what everyone here wants. I'm stressing this point so as to not confuse other people that come here…

With selective synch all the files are listed in a single list, with no folders whatsoever for you to navigate through. Just a huge list of PDF, MP3 and PNG files. That is not Selective Sync. It is Offline Files.
-
It seems that what most of the users here are asking is for same exact feature that's available on PC; selective folder sync. But that feature is only needed on devices that store your data. It's purpose is to prevent folders from syncing to a computer. As a mobile device does not sync folders, Selective Sync is not…

There's always the off-chance that they might delete one of them or that there may be some information in one of the files that I want kept private. Secure the app with a passcode in Settings.

If Dropbox files are not saved on mobile devices, why does my phone says Dropbox is taking up 10GB of space? Not saved permanently... Files you access on the device will be cached temporarily, and any files you mark as available offline will be stored for as long as they are marked that way.

The Photos page isn't a folder. It's a display of all the image files in your account (from all folders). If you don't want a particular folder to be included in the Photos display, while viewing the timeline, find an image from one of those folders, right-click on it and select Exclude from Timeline... The entire folder…

You can't. They should be able to accept the invite on the Share page. https://www.dropbox.com/share

Followed a link here to dl a community file, and I get the same message The person that generated the link did it incorrectly. You need to contact them.

Everyone, This thread is referring to the Recents page on the Dropbox website; not the mobile clients. As Ed has stated in his reply, you can now disable Recents on the website, so this thread will be closed. For further discussion about Recents on the mobile clients, please refer to the following thread: *…
-
Remember that what Ed is referring to is for the Dropbox website only. It does not apply to the mobile clients which will always default to the Recents tab.
-
Create a bookmark/favorite to https://www.dropbox.com/home and use that to enter the site. You'll bypass the Recents display.
-
Make sure you're using the Download button to get the original file. If you're using the browser's Save functionality, all you're saving is the preview of the the original file, and not the original. [This thread is now closed by moderators due to inactivity. If you're experiencing a similar behavior, feel free to start a…

Every photo already in various Dropbox files (some 5,000 in shared business files) has now populated on my phone, eating up almost all previously available storage. Dropbox doesn't do that. The Dropbox app does not sync files to your phone. It only shows you what's in your account online. The only files that are stored on…

if I delete the app will that delete my photos? No.
-
That just means it will delete the local data for that application, not your files, etc. Any app that you delete from your phone will say the same thing. Deleting the app from your phone will not delete any of the files in your account.

What's the point of saving space on my hard drive That's not the purpose of Dropbox. Yes, it can help save space with Selective Sync, but that is not what Dropbox is meant for. It's a synchronization service, not a cloud-based folder or drive. The entire point of Dropbox is that it keeps a copy of your files on your…

please give us the possibility to turn off the video preview Change the ?dl=0 in the link to ?dl=1. The user will be prompted to download the video instead of seeing the preview page. I find this to be a pretty poor service delivery. Dropbox is not a delivery or streaming service. It's a file synchronization service with…

I can only get Chrome to drag and drop / upload folders successfully to Dropbox. Correct. It only works in Chrome. It will not work in Firefox or IE. Mark is on a Mac, so maybe Safari as well, but he'd have to answer that.
-
You can't. Dropbox does not support uploading folders at all. It works in Chrome but is not supported. You can upload single files or multiple files in a single selection, but not folders.
-
You can upload multiple files at once by selecting them and dragging them into the Dropbox window in your browser. You cannot, however, do that by dragging a folder.

As I am a basic user, the policy of dropbox says I can only recover the files deleted within 30days as they will be deleted for real!!! Can someone tell me whether this statement is really true or it is just bullshit and I might have chances to let the staff of dropbox to recover them? That is correct. Basic accounts, or…

Dropbox is not capable of deleting your files on its own. Either you, another process on your computer or another device connected to your account had to have caused the deletion. Start here: * https://help.dropbox.com/security/missing-reappearing-corrupted-files *…

Remember, Dropbox does not support external, networked or removable drives. While it can work, data loss has been known to occur when storing your Dropbox folder on such a drive. Make sure you have a good backup of your data because if it happens to you, Dropbox will not be able to help you.
-
Is there something I'm missing where I'm able to do this? Nope, you're not missing anything. That's how it is and there's nothing that can be done about it. It has been a problem for some time now.
-
The Dropbox home page and the pages for my various folders, etc., are all loading fine. Is there anything specific that you're all doing when you get the error? A certain link you're clicking on, or a specific feature you're trying to use?

Does the notification stay on my screen until I dismiss it? No. That's not the same as an email sitting in my inbox which I check regularly anyway. I've asked for this for years. Have you used the RSS feed yet? You can find it on the Events page.
-
How do I give the application global dropbox access? That's something specified by the developer at the time the application is created within Dropbox. Once an app has reached production status, its access type cannot be changed.

If you're getting a message that you can't share a folder because it contains or is a member of another shared folder, then there's another shared folder. It's as simple as that. Look at the Sharing page for a list of your shared folders. If there's one listed, even if you're not sharing it with anyone (i.e. you're the…
