Have you moved or renamed a large folder? If so, Dropbox sees that as a deletion of one folder and the creation of a new one, which could trigger the deletion email that you received.
-
Thanks for the update, Sofia, and for the effort put in to resolving this!
-
As has been stated, the Share button provides the same functionality with just one extra click. It's a perfectly acceptable work-around for now. If you had a ticket open for this, add a reply stating that it's happening again. For those of your that don't already have a ticket open for this, why don't you?
-
Lindsay, refer to my post above. Use the Share button for now.
-
It seems the Copy Public Link button has stopped again, but the Share button will still give you the public link. I'll poke Dropbox about it again...
-
I think it will not work for screenshots which I need to be viewed inline in 3rd party websites. Create a share link and follow the second link (201) that I posted above. But now (as of Thursday evening) it is not working again. It's working fine for me at the moment.

I am using the DB website to do all this. In Public, neither the share button, nor right click on subject then copy public link, work for me. The issue has definitely been fixed. I would suggest clearing your browsing history/cache and trying again, or try another browser. you stated above that you replaced the Copy to…

In Public Folder, Copy Public Link still does not work. I'm not able to reproduce that. It's working for for me again. Are you creating the link from your computer or through the Dropbox website?
-
Confirmed. This appears to be resolved now.
-
Another workaround we found was to just move the files out of the public folder and share them from another folder. That's the Share Link option that I posted above, which replaced Public Links years ago. * https://www.dropbox.com/help/167
-
Now this is your public link and you can share it to users without having DB account. That's not a Public Link, but a Share Link, and they act slightly different. If you see your user number in the link such as /u/1234567 (as opposed to a randomly generated number) then it's a Public Link. If you see a random number in the…

Here shows the difference... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25199899/misc/fix-it.JPG https://www.dropbox.com/s/zdhe0m0y132i5ad/fix-it.jpg?dl=0 Note: The first link is a Public link. The second is a Share Link. It does not work the same way a Public Link does (it displays the file on a preview page by default, when the…

@John: That issue was different from the one that this thread is referring to.
-
someone opened ticket? Why haven't you? EVERYONE having this issue should open a ticket.
-
Dropbox is aware of this issue. I'll post another reply as soon as more information is available. Cross-linking for reference: * [removed old links] This reply will be updated with other posts as they are closed and redirected here.

Rick, this post is in the API forum and refers to using the Dropbox programming interface, not the website or desktop client, to create a new method of uploading files to Dropbox.
-
is it possible to upload files to dropbox by providing a link to these files. No. if I could get a list of each individual file directly, could it be somehow possible with the API to write something that would upload the files from the other service. Best asked in the API forum. I'm moving your thread there.

I'm guessing here, but it could be a way for LinkedIn to show someone that they're leaving the LinkedIn site and going to a third-party website. Other websites have done similar with a popup saying "You are about to leave [Company Name]'s website. Do you want to continue?"
-
Can I change the name of the Dropbox link No, you can't. Is there a way to bypass this dialog box I've never seen such a dialog before. Perhaps it's related to how LinkedIn has implemented it? What happens when you open the link separate from LinkedIn? Do you still get that dialog or does it go straight to the folder?…
-
Disregard Rick's reply. You can edit an Excel file in Dropbox, even if you're using a public computer. Dropbox has teamed up with Microsoft to provide access to the Office web and mobile apps. The more common Office files (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) can now be opened and edited right from the web or mobile apps. Refer to…

Is there going to be any response to this from Dropbox? Have you contacted them yet? This is primarily a user-supported forum. While a Dropboxer does reply on occasion, most of the help received here comes from others users that volunteer their time. To get a response from Dropbox you need to open a ticket. Open your…

the desktop folder size does not tally with the size on the website. And it won't. The Dropbox folder has a hidden cache folder in it. This folder does not count against your storage quota and only exists on your computers (it's not in your account online). Because of this the local Dropbox folder size will usually vary…
-
The originator of the share is likely mistaken. If you have nearly 2.7GB of available space in your account and Dropbox is saying that you'll run out of space, then the shared folder you've been invited to is larger than 2.7GB.
-
You need to store the Dropbox folder in a location that all users will have access to. This is typically outside of the user profiles because other users cannot access the content of another user's profile. You could change the permissions so they could access another profile, but that's more trouble than it's worth. The…

You can reach out to Dropbox Support but I'm willing to bet that Gumroad will need to talk to them themselves. Any direct connection like that is handled using the Dropbox API (a programming interface available to third-party developers for integrating Dropbox with their own apps). It's the third-party developers that use…
-
How are you downloading the files? Is there some direct connection between Gumroad and Dropbox where the files are saved directly to your account Dropbox account? If so, only Gumroad will be able to help you as they're the ones that would have created that interface. Or are you downloading the files like you would any…

All devices linked to your account will upload to the Camera Uploads folder. This cannot be changed, and there is no way to differentiate between the photos/videos uploaded from multiple devices.
-
Seems to be working fine for me. I download a file in Chrome, select OPEN IN..., then Copy to Dropbox. Dropbox then prompts me to choose a folder and once I select Save the file is uploaded. Are these the steps you're taking? If so, are both Chrome and Dropbox up-to-date?

Question is, if db is running, will dragn-n-drop on the shortcut work? Yes, it will. It takes a second or two longer than dropping on to a regular shortcut to the folder, but it still works just the same.
-
There's no need to go through all of that just to get to your Dropbox folder. Double-click the "Dropbox" icon that's on your desktop. If Dropbox isn't running, it will launch it. If it is running, it will open your Dropbox folder. Also, double-clicking the icon in your system tray will open the folder location, as will…
