I have the same issue in macOS. Can't open the app. It only opens the folder. Can't right click on files to copy url. No Dropbox options when right clicking Dropbox files.

Unfortunately, sorting all your Dropbox files by size isn't currently possible if you have "online-only" files. These files appear as 0KB on your computer, making sorting by size useless. With so many users relying on online-only files, a workaround might seem obvious: sorting by size directly on Dropbox.com.…

Is there a way to automatically copy / back up the files? I don't need syncing, only backup.

In Dropbox Backup I can select folders on my Mac I would like to back up. Can I select the iCloud folder?
-
No. If I'm correct that only works for specific folders you chose yourself and doesn't include subfolders and the files inside them. I need to sort all files by size regardless of where they are stored. Let's say I have a 1GB file inside a folder somewhere. I've forgotten about this file and don't know it even exists. How…

I want to sort all my files by size. Not just files and folders in the main Dropbox folder or a specific folder. But all of them. I don't know where some large files are located and I can't do it on my Mac as many files are online-only and shows up as "Zero bytes". How do I find these large online-only files?

When are we getting this update? This is insane. Nothing works like it used to!

Hi Walter, Is this bug being addressed? It's been years and files are still losing their tags when they go "online only". If a placeholder file is created, shouldn't it also keep it's tags the same way it keeps its name? Having a MacOS app that removes essential MacOS features is kind of absurd. How am I going to find my…

Hi Jay, Shouldn't it be resolved? It's crazy to have an app for MacOS that removes essential MacOS features. If a placeholder file is created when the file goes "online only", that placeholder file should also keep the tags like it keeps the filename, right? Tags are an essential feature of the Finder. Are the team working…

Why hasn't this been fixed?

Hi @"Walter" It's been 4 years. My online-only files still don't show tags. When 99% of Mac users use Dropbox in the Finder, you can't remove core Finder features created by Apple. Is this impossible to fix? Are you working on it? When will it be fixed? It's a critical feature of the Finder. Millions of users use tags.

Even though I like having most of my files online, that's actually a really dumb decision. Why can't users just decide of themselves? What happens when you try yo backup your Mac with Time Machine? What happens when you use files in a third party app?
-
Talked with support again and they said the option is removed, but the feature is still there. It's just always on. My issue is that files I haven't touched in a year didn't go online-only automatically. It could be a third party app messing it up. I don't know.
-
Just spoke to support and they said the option is removed, but it's always on. You can't turn it off. Maybe you haven't updated you app or something.
-
What?? Support just told me the option was removed some time ago!
-
Talked with support. They have completely removed the feature. Totally crazy decision to do for such a beneficial feature. I have almost all my files in Dropbox. I don't remember which files I haven't opened in a while or not. I now have to manually find all my inactive files and click "Make online-only" on each individual…

Thanks. In the past, they became online-only when they had been inactive for some time. I really liked this. Not for all files, but for most files. I know they changed it so that if you click "Make available offline", the file/folder won't be affected by the automatic online-only option. My issue is that it doesn't work…

The green icon means it's synced and online. The grey icon means it's not downloaded locally.

Where do I find the "save hard drive space automatically" option? I've looked everywhere and I can't find it. I'm on a M1 Mac (macOS Monterey 12.1).

I've now reinstalled both the Dropbox app and the Facebook Messenger app. I still have the issue. It happens on every link someone sends me and my friends have the same issue. But we found out that if you click the 3 dots in the lower right corner and then hit "Open in Safari", it opens in the Dropbox app exactly as we…

Here are numbered screenshots to show you what happens: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/htwtv9ia145y4fr/AABwRechbjvH0ajaXpRu_t8xa?dl=0 When someone shares a Dropbox link in Messenger, it gives me two options: 1. Go to App store to download Dropbox. 2. View the shared folder on the web. It does not recognize that I have the…

I’m also unable to attach files from Dropbox in Gmail. It says online that it’s possible, but I can’t figure out how to. I’ve installed "Dropbox for Gmail", but it does not work for me. I’m a ble to save an attachment from Gmail to Dropbox, but not the other way around. Why?
