I can report that my system updated to 241.4.4795 today and, the one time I tried it, I paused sync and saw it re-enable itself 30 minutes later. Seems like this may be fixed, thanks!
-
I tried a couple of other PCs, and Sync resumed perfectly. I can't see any common factor as to why some have the problem and some don't.
-
Hi, I am seeing this too, on 240.4.8493 (Windows 11 x64)
-
That's brilliant @"Neal" thank you.
-
It's there for all files - I have this when sync is paused and this when it is not paused Dropbox version 226.4.5094, Win11
-
Thanks Nancy for the swift response. It is not syncing to the servers but it is still connected to the internet. One of the remaining options is "Copy Dropbox link" - so the link is available and could be visited instead of being copied, couldn't it?

I have re-installed Dropbox and the context menu seems to be back. I went to Download & Install - Dropbox and scrolled down to where it says "Problems with the App? Download it again", downloaded and ran the installer. Hopefully if anyone else has the same problem, this will fix it.

I've been away from my desk for a week and in the intervening time, both dropbox and windows have been updated. Now, dropbox seems to be syncing OK but there is no right click ('context') menu and no badges for files in explorer. Is anyone else seeing this? I've tried rebooting several times. * Dropbox 178.4.4811 * Windows…

@"Megan" wrote:Hi @"Peter H.87", thanks for letting us know more about your findings! If you need anything else, I'll be one post away, cheers! I was sort of thinking you might fix it?

FYI I can also reproduce this just on the laptop screen; if I change the scaling from the default 125% to 100% the same thing happens. I've found a work-around - go to the shortcut (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Dropbox), right click for Properties, go to Compatibility, go to High DPI Settings, check…

OK, I reinstalled but that did not make any difference. Also possibly relevant is that the scaling is set at 125% on the laptop screen but 100% on the external monitors.

@"Megan" wrote:Hi @"Peter H.87", if you uninstall the app, then re-install it that wouldn't sync your content from scratch. It'll just re-instate the state of your app. Any changes in your files would simply re-index. Give it a go, and let me know of the results, thanks! I'm sure you're right but it's currently giving me a…

Thanks for getting back to me. It's version v 170.4.5895 I haven't tried reinstalling but I will IF you can tell me what's involved, I haven't got time to wait for my whole dropbox to resync as I need it for work.

If anyone is curious about 1601, it's because computers store the file modification time as the number of intervals that have elapsed since the "epoch", aka Time Zero, and on Windows, the epoch is January 1st 1601 (Why is the Win32 epoch January 1, 1601? - The Old New Thing (microsoft.com)) Hence if the stored file time…

Seems really slow to access a file in Windows Explorer that was previously offline with smart-sync, say > 30 seconds before it's available. Is that just me or is anyone else seeing it?
-
Jay, That wasn't the kind of answer I expected but, it is an answer. Thanks, Peter
-
That's interesting because I have got the "Smart Sync" / "Selective sync" / "Dropbox folder location" like Typpi, except that I don't have the "Save hard drive space" subsection in Smart Sync. But I do have a checkbox for "Let my admin manage this setting". Assume DB are testing some different options with different users?

Please could we have release notes? Thanks.
-
Please could you share the release notes?
-
Thanks John, much appreciated. I feel more confident with Dropbox if I know if anything has changed.
-
They seem to have fallen back to the old ways of not showing any respect for the paying customers. Didn't take long.
-
I would be happy with a change log OR a reasoned explanation from DB showing that they have considered it and found it unnecessary. Otherwise it just seems like discourtesy towards the paying customers.
-
thomas l.14 : keep the faith, one day they will release a change log. I was working with sync paused and while I was working dropbox did a client update and turned sync back on automatically. This was inconvenient and should not happen. I paused sync for a reason and dropbox should respect that.

Thanks, Dropbox!

In the very document linked to by Clarence L, it says: A green circle with a check mark is a wonderful thing and what you'll see most often. When it appears on the Dropbox icon in your system tray or menu bar, it means your Dropbox is fully synced. Even Dropbox's own docs aren't up to date. I think this could have been…

The macos version has been like this for quite a long time, so I suppose Dropbox are making things more consistent across platforms. Still, release notes would have been a good way to let us know about this change!

I see the DbxSvc logging thing is still happening, however for those interested, there is an update/explanation from DB here: https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Installation-and-desktop-app/DbxSvc-ID-320/m-p/231994#M45328

Also seeing the Event Log problem. (Win10 64 bit) Hope to see this fixed in the release notes for the next version.

Another new client version, another visit to the forum to add kudos to Thomas's post requesting a change log. I am considering changing my name to Sisyphus!
