Yes, this is now vital. As if Google hasn't made enough money, now they force everyone into this data mafia programme. If we already pay for other cloud services, why should we pay a different subscription for Google. Really shady.

Hi Mark; I expect that's because people don't know? I was only informed this week that this was happening, and given a month to find a solution before Google completely crashes my work and email by doubling the data in my account. So I'm hoping that other people have also just found out like me, and are looking for a…

Hi Walter; Yes, I was already doing that, thanks. I'm looking for text messages.

Well, if you want help, then ask for it directly from Dropbox staff. Seems more practical. I can't comment on your third-party syncing issue because I don't use that. If you want to find out about 3rd party applications, then why not trial the method? And report to the community? You argued that I'm "wrong" to report that…

I have been trying to assuage the doubts of this group by pointing you to a solution, which people's disbelief or opinion, rather than empirical trial, has seemed to muddy. I've written here a number of times that I am running a version of Dropbox which forced me to move all my dropbox data into the "Users" folder, which…

@"TRO_Berlin" Yes, it works. It is something different than SymLinking a folder, and the new DropBox allows it.

You guys are pretty impressive how angry you are about the system change that you insist I must be working under different conditions, or made up this method somehow, and don't attempt the workaround. And that you are so insistent that I cannot have found a workaround that might work for you too, without just trying it…

I made this with a fresh installation of Dropbox when I changed computers in November, which prevented me from making a symlink. So I'm quite sure it's the new version. It took me two to three hours with applecare and a lot of digging around to find it, but this is what I came up with and it worked. I suggest trying it…

The instructions answer this: * Important: We assume that your Dropbox folder is in the default pathway. If you have placed your Dropbox folder in a custom location, replace all ~/Dropbox with the full location of your Dropbox folder in quotation marks. For example, if you have your Dropbox folder in the…

@@"roverdb" @"TRO_Berlin" @"eriq c." Did you try the SUDO workaround I mentioned above? It worked for me like a charm on a new Venture MacBook Pro, still going great. https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall
-
@"Emanuele B." @"Megan" I found a solution to this problem using the SUDO command for Mac Terminal. https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall This worked for me. I have a 4 T drive, which is partitioned into a 1T system drive and 3T data drive. I have 1.9T of dropbox data. Using this command sequence allows me…

@"Andrew Parker" Yes, it does.

@"Andrew Parker" https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Apps-and-Installations/Take-Dropbox-out-of-Mac-Library/m-p/635053/highlight/true#M46636 Follow the instructions in the link. It takes a while, and you might have to re-sync your dropbox, but it works.

Yes!! @"Walter" your solution is brilliant. @"Andrew Parker" did you try the advanced install option? I still cannot backup Documents, Downloads and Desktop however. Is there a sudo workaround for those too? Thanks so much!
-
@"treeandrew" Hi, Ventura definitely doesn't allow copying those folders. And the tech and I looked over your advice about secondary admin level, and he said it wouldn't work from there either - same restrictions would apply. However, I finally did find a workaround here, proposed by the brilliant @"Walter" :…
-
@"treeandrew" how did you get your home folder to copy over? Did you do it in Ace Detective, or an earlier OS?
-
@"Andrew Parker" and all on this thread, I've attempted a workaround from another thread, but it failed in Ventura. https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Apps-and-Installations/MacOS-13-0-Ventura-and-Dropbox-follows-OneDrive-in-forcing-the/m-p/637029/highlight/true#M46988 Mac were great, and the guy I spoke to is raising it to…

@"Megan" @"Walter" I tried @"treeandrew"'s excellent idea of copying the user directory over to my partition drive (I keep my 2nd drive internal to the machine - and yes, SSD only! Hence major investment for a 4T drive to sync locally and in cloud). Thank you, such an intelligent solution. However, Ventura prevented me…

This is an absolute travesty. I've just bought a new MacBook pro, and am only able to install a Ventura OS. I bought my whole system, and spent a year writing a grant to do it, just for the capability of dropbox archiving a fully indexed research archive. I am an academic, and have 3.0 Terabytes of scholarship and academic…
