Not only is it buggy... but it's not nearly as tolerant, reliable, etc. The old engine worked well for YEARS. Now this new one is full of hidden surprises (things it doesn't like or doesn't want to support). But to top it all off -- it's much more resource hungry. My dropbox process is constantly eating more CPU and…

@S34WOLF - I was in the same boat as you and documented the solution (for me) on page 12 of this thread: https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Files-folders/Dropbox-is-stuck-syncing-after-an-update-what-can-I-do/m-p/392419/highlight/true#M142599

Ronald -- please check my solution to the un-numbered syncing I posted here: (my long post outlining symptoms and solutions): https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Files-folders/Dropbox-is-stuck-syncing-after-an-update-what-can-I-do/td-p/389422/page/12

Finally! SUCCESS. After 2 weeks of troubleshooting I'm "Up to date", fully sync'd. Symptom #1: "Syncing...." (with no indication of # of files) Dropbox dies after it runs out of memory. Root cause #1: A circular symlink that allowed for infinite path tranversal (e.g.:…

This seems to indicate Dropbox is not actually syncing my files: $> lsof -p <dropbox pid> COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME dropbox 30902 matt cwd DIR 8,2 4096 63176758 /home/matt dropbox 30902 matt rtd DIR 8,2 4096 2 / dropbox 30902 matt txt REG 8,2 11181752 63177210…

For the past 8 hours my machine has been stuck at... Syncing 723 files Uploading 390 files... Downloading 333 files... Dropboxd is currently using 100% of a core, 10GB of RAM, and is at 462 minutes on the CPU. I'm not optimistic.
-
As posted previously, I was able to get beyond "Syncing..." (with no numbers) by finding and removing the circular symlink reference. However, now the syncing (with numbers) appears to be going at the speed of a snail: Syncing 524 files • 2+ days Uploading 278 files (0.0 KB/sec, 2+ days) Downloading 246 files (0.1 KB/sec,…

A glimmer of hope for me... I was experiencing the endless "Syncing....." with no numbers (no #### uploading, #### downloading, etc.) The dropbox would be stuck at "Syncing..." for 9 hours, eat all the memory, and then die. I got to thinking - maybe the memory "leak" is due to an infinitely recursive symlink. I found a…

Will this update help with the endless "Syncing...." so many of us are experiencing?
-
I'm still experiencing the endless sync problem that everyone else started having from the update 2 weeks ago and discussed here: https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Files-folders/Dropbox-is-stuck-syncing-after-an-update-what-can-I-do/m-p/392086

For me, there is no end to the Syncing.... because the app runs out of memory and crashes. 32GB of RAM! And it eats it all and then dies before finishing.

Thanks @"Daphne" ! I responded to the email. The frustrating part here is that fundamentally you have a group of people who have made no changes on their side, and the update has broken their sync, but Dropbox has not acknowledged that they have a problem. Symlinks or no symlinks, Dropbox' official stance is that Symlinks…
-
Hi @"Daphne" - I cannot remove the symlinks because they are part of a production application in use (with users). Furthermore, Dropbox officially came out and said that Symlinks are "okay" to have in your Dropbox, they just won't be "followed": from Dropbox's official statement regarding this most recent update:…

How do you downgrade? @"DarseZ" wrote:@"Exis", I think that's the issue, not having clarity around this yet. If the new version has issues I'd rather just know, so I can backgrade to 87.4.138 for the time being until everything is worked out.
-
Another (unfortunate) data point: I just noticed that while my dropbox client is stuck on "Syncing..." (with no numbers) it's actually not only eating CPU (100% on one core), but it's slowly eating ALL 32GB OF RAM! -- until the system kills the process automatically (Ubuntu server). [10829014.321309] Killed process 13471…

Hi @"Daphne" -- completed the commands, but no change.. Still stuck on a blank "Syncing..." [Jan 21 07:44 PM][matt@server:~]$ dropbox.py status Syncing... [Jan 21 07:44 PM][matt@server:~]$ dropbox.py stop Dropbox isn't responding! [Jan 21 07:45 PM][matt@server:~]$ dropbox.py stop Dropbox isn't running! [Jan 21 07:45…

Update for me -- before my problem was that it would get stuck on Syncing #### files, Uploading #### files, Downloading #### files. Once again I tried restarting Dropbox, and now it's just stuck on "Syncing....." with no #'s. Ubuntu/Linux.
-
Hi Daphne, I cannot follow the directions because my Dropbox runs on a headless Linux server. There is no GUI. No preferences. I can only control it with the command-line (CLI): python.py status python.py start python.py stop ..etc.. What do I do?! @"Daphne"

I've been a loyal dropbox customer for many years.. but this is ridiculus.. by far the worst upgrade we've seen.
-
Same problem here on a headless Ubuntu 18.04 server.. I have 1 TB of dropbox data and since the most recent update the Dropbox client eats 100% CPU (one core) and never finishes syncing no matter what I try.
