  • Thank-you! Finally someone has taken notice. BUT, why has it taken so long to get a proper response? Is there something that any of us users could have done, or should have done, that would have got a proper acknowledgment sooner? This problem's been in discussion for 40 days.
  • Because it's a side-effect of the scheduled task that attempts every hour to update Dropbox if a new version is available.
  • In the question: Dropboxcleanup.exe has stopped working - Windows 8.1 https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Apps-and-Installations/Dropboxcleanup-exe-has-stopped-working-Windows-8-1/td-p/662528 someone erroneously said the problem was solved, early on. It is NOT SOLVED. Maybe the reason that Dropboxers are ignoring the thread is…
  • Hello! I'm on W8.1, not W7 - the W7 users seem to have a problem with a different DLL. It shoudn't matter though about what's on W7 or W8.1 itself(**) - as (as far as I can see) every other DLL that Dropbox uses is shipped inside the application ... and that includes an older version of the api-ms-win-core-heap dll (at…
  • I think I am being ignored in both this forum discussion and the ticket I raised. Does anyone know how to get a problem escalated to people who understand technical issues, rather than those who just follow scripted responses (that in this case CANNOT solve the problem)?
  • I'm not going to do a reinstall. The whole point of this complaint is to get the problem fixed at your end so that when the scheduled update happens all the affected users' Dropbox application fix themselves. The problem isn't a showstopper, just very annoying. Some of the other people in this discussion tried multiple…
  • In the early stages of my ticket (in which I mentioned both the W7 and W8.1 issues) the Dropbox first-leve rep referred me to https://help.dropbox.com/installs/system-requirements and said that Win 7 isn't supported. I've only just looked there (because MY problem is with W8.1 and a different DLL than yours) and yet that…
  • I've raised this whole issue as a formal support ticket, but - so far - only had the basic "level 1" non-technical response. I'll let you all know if anything sensible / useful comes of this.
  • @"evilgrin72" I suppose what's best depends on whether or not Dropbox support finally address the problem /properly/. In the short term, if we assume that the scheduled tasks that get run have to continue running (I mean, you don't want Dropbox to stop applying updates to itself) then deleting the scheduled tasks is not…
  • @"Aquaritone", @"evilgrin72" I mentioned above that when I searched my system for instances of one of the DLLs I found several (not just in the Dropbox \bin folder), and that although the ones I found all had the same name, they had slightly different contents. In fact they had different "hashes" (a sort of fingerprint of…
  • Oh - and one other thing. At no point in this problem has telling users to reinstall been sensible, UNLESS Dropbox support knew that they had missed the right DLL out of the installer and had since fixed that. A missing DLL will not magically come back until Dropbox ship it. All that reinstalls do is waste users' time.
  • I'm also a Windows 8.1 user and I too have had this problem since it first started. However (probably because I have my machine set up differently from most users) I've only seen the pop-up message about a specific missing DLL once. The difference here is that (as a programmer, someone who regularly sends full application…
  • I see that even when one clicks "Reply" to someone-else's post, this forum software does not then show what text one's reply was to. I replied to the post made by "Aquaritone" (on 03-07-2023 at 07-02am), and said in reply to their comment that "Under "Add or Remove Programs" it says Dropbox was installed on my computer on…
  • I think the reason that your machine shows that Dropbox was installed recently is that Dropbox gets regular updates, and your machine is showing you the date that the most recent update was installed.
  • I should add: I understand how conflicted files can occur, when multiple people edit files at the same time etc, but there's only me using my machine, and only one machine using my DB account. The conflicted file I did find was date/time stamped more or less exactly at the time, soon after booting my machine, when I…
  • For more info on conflicted files see eg: https://help.dropbox.com/files-folders/share/conflicted-copy
  • I said above that my problems went away after stopping and starting Dropbox, but also after manually finding a conflicted file (ie a file where Dropbox cannot tell which of two versions of that file are correct, so keeps both, but renames one with 'conflict' in its name and added date & time details). Why a conflicted file…
  • Continually-runing resync... A 'chat' with support highlighted that my problem seemed to be a sync that was stuck - the systray icon showed no info but the progress info in the GUI showed 1,688 files being synced. Then that'd change to 1687 then back to 1688 then 1677 then 1688, occasionally a few more then back to…
  • Same here - full resync been running ever since I rebooted my machine about 3.5 hours ago.
