Thanks so much for the insight, Jay. I’m not likely to switch to Windows anytime soon… So in the meantime, I think I’d like to downgrade only Dropbox to see if I can get the old functionality back. Three questions for you: (1) Can you recommend an old installer I should use to do the downgrade? (2) Once I’ve downgraded,…

I agree it would be far from ideal, but I’m just trying to figure out what the boundaries are. So in that spirit… What if I were to replace my Mac with a Windows 11 PC? Do you think I’d eventually have similar problems? Is this ultimately an industry-wide change, or is it likely to remain an Apple-only limitation?

I hate that I'm even having to consider this kind of thing... But what if I was able to downgrade my Mac Studio to run MacOS 11.7.4 (Big Sur) and also run an older version of Dropbox on it? Would that keep me going, or would I still eventually be forced to upgrade and move my Dropbox files to my Mac's main hard drive?…

I'm running Dropbox v182.4.6427 and MacOS 13.5.2 (Ventura) on a 2023 Mac Studio (M2 Ultra). I see from the link you provided that upgrading my Dropbox means that my main Dropbox folder will be moved to ~/Library/CloudStorage. Unfortunately, this prohibits me from upgrading Dropbox, as my Mac's internal hard drive is only…

I'm having this issue too. Seeing the history here, it seems like a persistent problem, and it really hinders the usability of Smart Sync. I recently switched to a new computer (Mac Studio with M2 Ultra chip running MacOS Ventura 13.4.1 (c)) and this is a fresh installation of the latest Dropbox app. I was able to get the…

While it may not be a huge inconvenience, I don’t love this news… So, rather than allowing users the option to keep downloaded files indefinitely, it sounds like Dropbox will just take the liberty to remove them from our local hard drives at some unspecified interval. Can’t wait to see what other exciting changes are in…

@"Pookeyblow", it may depend on your account type, but mine is found on the Sync tab within Dropbox Preferences.

there’s not a specific period of time over which the Dropbox app converts your files automatically to online-only. Thanks @"Nancy" ... I'm honestly just not sure I believe this. The Dropbox app must have some method to determine that downloaded files and/or folders haven't been accessed for while... Maybe it's not a…

Thanks. It's not a huge issue for me, but I'll give that a try. Out of curiosity: If I were to turn on "Save hard drive space automatically" and mark a folder to be "available offline," exactly how long would that folder need to be inactive before Dropbox would automatically offload it, making it "online only" again? I…

Thanks so much for the reply! Can you be more specific about the procedure I should use to "mark" files as "Available Offline?" I always thought that's what I was doing by right-clicking my files in Finder and choosing "Make available offline" (see screenshot below) — but I noticed one folder in particular that got…

Out of curiosity, how long is the default time period before Dropbox makes inactive files / folders online-only again? Personally, I'd prefer if my Dropbox would never automatically offload files that I've specifically chosen to download. If I want to offload files / folders later, I'm more than happy to do it manually.…
