When something goes "bump in the dark" (this has happened to me) sometimes it helps to simply pause-sync, resume-sync. If that does not work make sure you are not using the web interface but just putting files in the dropbox-folder!

could it be an OS notice from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\AutoPlay ? Dropbox "Preferences" Import Tab can take you there.

Now that THAT's clear (sorry it took me so long), it is clearly a Windows problem!-) What happens if you set the folder to "Hidden"?

Ok, navigate until the dropbox folder is in the right-hand pane, right-click on the icon, select "properties", Customize tab, then click the "change icon" button at the bottom. This will let you change the icon - at least for the moment. DB changes the icon to indicate "up to date", etc.

Jeremy, I do not understand what you object to: it is a DB icon that replaces the <folder> icon in windows. Beside "onedrive" you'll see their icon too. You can always goto Windows "Properties" and change the icon: "Properties" Customize tab "Change Icon" ...

I do not see the DB icon in Windows 10 (upgraded from win 8) File Explorer - so I cannot reproduce the issue. Rich (above) says it can't be removed, yet I don't see it! What I do see is the Dropbox folder in the navigation pane.

That "icon" sounds like a token or Most Recently Used (MRU) item. Only way I have found to clear 'em out is to use good ol' Ccleaner !-)

The icon in question is confuzing because it points to dropbox.exe (not to the dropbox folder). In other words it is a shortcut that you can just put in the trashcan on win7 - not sure how to do that yet in win10!

If you are using "Flash" player (?) turn off "hardware accelleration". And remember, that playing the first 15 minutes of a video on dropbox is actually playing a "Preview File" (not the original). To see the full quality you must download the file then play it.

In order for Dropbox to sync what happens on Dropbox.com, your computer must be running dropbox.exe.

M, Only folders can be shared, so what do you mean by "shared files"? And "public folders" are shared folders, AFIK.

Smaller files are synced first, so the last , large file may not fit. see https://www.dropbox.com/account#personal for more info about your personal "space".

You may have had "promotional" space which has now expired leaving you with the files but way over quota!
